Liz Jemson-Ledger
B.App.Sc (Physiotherapy), Master of Clinical Rehabilitation (Neurological Physiotherapy)
Liz is an APA Titled Neurological Physiotherapist and the Clinical Lead at Advanced Neuro Rehab, with more than 10 years of experience in neurological physiotherapy and rehabilitation. She has a particular interest in concussion, dizziness and vertigo, headache management, dysautonomia/POTS, brain injury, balance problems and complex neurological conditions.
Since graduating as a physiotherapist in 2015, Liz has worked across a range of neurological rehabilitation settings including the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit (BIRU), before joining Advanced Neuro Rehab. Over the past decade, she has developed extensive experience working with people experiencing changes to their walking, balance, coordination, strength, mobility and confidence following neurological injury or illness. Liz believes it is fundamental to understand how these types of impairments truly impact one’s day to day life.
Clinical interests
Liz particularly enjoys working with people experiencing:
- Concussion and persistent symptoms following concussion
- Dizziness, vertigo and balance problems
- BPPV and vestibular conditions
- Headaches
- Dysautonomia/POTS
- Brain injury and acquired brain injury
- Functional Neurological Disorder
- Complex neurological presentations
She has a particular interest in understanding the multifactorial presentation that can contribute to dizziness, headaches, fatigue, balance problems and reduced exercise tolerance following concussion. This includes the interaction between the neck, vestibular and visual systems, the autonomic nervous system and exercise.
Treatment approach
Liz’s empathetic and enthusiastic approach leaves people feeling heard, motivated and empowered to work together in improving their physical capacity and quality of life.
Patients can expect a combination of education, practical strategies and targeted exercise designed around their individual presentation. Liz enjoys problem-solving complex cases and working collaboratively with patients and other health professionals to help people understand their symptoms, build confidence and return to the activities that are important to them.
Research, teaching and professional experience
Liz completed her Master of Clinical Rehabilitation (Neurological Physiotherapy) at Flinders University, where her research investigated the effects of exertion on neck function following concussion.
She has developed a particular expertise in concussion rehabilitation and has been involved in developing clinical protocols, assessment tools and education resources. Her passion for concussion education extends beyond the clinic, and she regularly teaches concussion management courses to physiotherapists and other health professionals across Australia.
Liz has also presented at national conferences, including the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) Conference and the National Brain Injury Conference, sharing her clinical knowledge and experience in concussion and neurological rehabilitation.
She has been involved in concussion screening and management initiatives with sporting organisations including the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA), South Australian National Football League (SANFL) and Australian Football League (AFL).
Outside of physiotherapy
Liz loves to keep busy. If she’s not working on home renovations or DIY projects, she is at the gym, running, enjoying a wine with her friends or planning her next holiday. She is always up for discussing interior design or recipes, so come prepared!
