Matthew Sickerdick

Physiotherapist

Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours), University of South Australia

Matthew graduated from the University of South Australia with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours).

Matthew has a strong interest in neurological and disability rehabilitation, including NDIS participants. He works with people with conditions such as multiple sclerosis, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), helping them improve their balance and coordination, walk with greater confidence and maintain independence in everyday life.

Matthew provides physiotherapy in both clinic and community settings. He works with each person to develop practical and achievable rehabilitation plans focused on what matters most to them, whether that is feeling safer at home, participating in the community, returning to valued activities or building confidence with movement and exercise.

He also has a particular interest in vestibular physiotherapy and concussion rehabilitation, supporting people experiencing dizziness, vertigo, BPPV, vestibular migraine and persistent post-concussion symptoms.

Clinical interests

Matthew particularly enjoys working in the following areas:

  • Neurological and disability rehabilitation
  • Walking, balance and falls prevention
  • Dizziness, vertigo, BPPV and vestibular migraine
  • Concussion and persistent post-concussion symptoms
  • Stroke rehabilitation
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Functional Neurological Disorder (FND)

Treatment approach

Matthew takes a collaborative and patient-centred approach, taking the time to understand each person’s concerns, goals and the activities that are most important to them.

Treatment is individualised to the person’s presentation, abilities and everyday needs. It may include education, targeted exercise, movement retraining, balance and walking practice, and practical strategies for managing symptoms. Activities are progressively graded to help build physical capacity and confidence at a manageable pace.

Matthew prioritises clear explanations and reassurance, helping people understand their symptoms and take an active role in their rehabilitation. Where appropriate, he works closely with families, support teams and other health professionals to provide coordinated care.

Outside of physiotherapy

Outside of work, Matthew enjoys running, going to the gym, travelling and taking on DIY projects around the home. So make sure to come ready with your travel and DIY tips!
